As simple as SpeedPPC is there’s one aspect of the campaign building process that often causes a bit of confusion. It even confused us the first time we used it. And that is the URL Template.

The URL Template is where you put your landing page URL and if you are sending traffic to a dynamic landing page (DLP), this is the URL that passes your keyword tokens (seed, expansion and/or final) to that page. The URL template is also where you append any tracking code you may be using.

Although you can insert tokens into your ad display url for example: www.yoursite.com/{seed} – your display url does not pass those tokens to your DLP.

Your ad actual (or destination) landing page URL must be the landing page you are sending your traffic to. This URL does not pass tokens.

As said above, the URL Template must be your landing page URL. Here is where you can append your tokens and it is this URL that passes them to your dynamic landing page. You can also append tracking code to your URL Template.

Make sense? So…

1. Ad Display URL – does NOT pass tokens but you can insert tokens at the end of the URL string.
2. Ad Actual URL – does NOT pass tokens.
3. URL Template – passes tokens and is used for tracking purposes.
